DeepForm is bringing to market a new technology that promises to minimise waste in car manufacturing by 80%, cutting both costs and carbon emissions.

This University of Cambridge spinout was founded in 2022 by Dr Christopher Cleaver and Professor Julian Allwood, building on a decade of research.

Traditional stamping methods require excess metal around the edges of car parts, which is later trimmed and discarded. DeepForm’s patented tool design and software solution allow manufacturers to form parts with minimal waste. This not only lowers material costs but also cuts carbon emissions, with potential savings of up to 30% per part.

In 2024, DeepForm raised £2 million in seed funding to scale its technology and meet growing demand from industry. The company has already delivered a successful proof of concept to Jaguar Land Rover via Project Mobius, a £1.1 million grant-funded collaboration focused on digital body structure optimisation.
