Cambridge is a unique hub of scientific talent and expertise and one of the global centres of excellence, making it a top place to start a deep-tech company.
Dr Jonathan Bean
Co-founder and CEO, Materials Nexus
MatNex pioneers the use of artificial intelligence and computational physics to design and deploy new materials faster than traditional R&D approaches.
Founded whilst conducting research at University of Cambridge, Dr Jonathan Bean and Dr Robert Forrest pioneered a platform that replaces slow trial-and-error with data-driven prediction, enabling rapid identification of materials with superior performance and cost advantages.
Using a combination of advanced simulation and machine learning, MatNex works with sectors such as manufacturing, energy infrastructure, semiconductors and advanced computing, where material choice directly determines product competitiveness.
Since founding the company has secured over £10m in funding to scale its discovery platform and bring new materials to market in collaboration with industrial partners.
